The laboratory specializes in obtaining practicalengineering solutions for applied and industrial problems that span all of mechanical engineering. Solution methodologies encompass numerical simulation, benchtop experiments, and simplified analytical models. Capabilities for complex numerical simulations encompass CFD and finite-elements. Recent representative problems include improvement of water quality, particle transport, curing of polymers, heating or cooling of human body fluids, long-term preservation of foods, thermal management of heat generating electrical and electronic equipment, control of water vapor and pollutant transfer, heat and mass exchangers, structural analysis, fluid/structural interactions, rotating machinery, and solar and wind renewable energy sources.
